Ezekiel 37_
ScriptureEzekiel 37:22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.Observation - What does it say?As God continues to promise hope and restoration for his people, central to that restoration is a uniting, not only of people to God but people to each other. Where the people were divided, God was going to bring them back together as one.Understanding - What does it mean?Have you ever wondered what God’s will was? This verse in Ezekiel gives us a clue. The first chapter in Ephesians makes it a bit more clear:Ephesians 1:9-109 [God] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.God’s will is to bring all things together under the lordship of Jesus Christ. This is the same picture we see in Ezekiel. Unity is important to God! It’s central to his cosmic plan. The challenge is that it demands we forgive. It demands we let go of bitterness. And it demands we move beyond peacekeeping to pursuing genuine reconciliation.Life ApplicationPrayerfully ask…- “Are there any people you’re asking me to be reconciled to?”- “Is there anyone I’m holding onto bitterness toward that I need to forgive?”- “Are there any people groups (race, gender, denomination, political affiliation) that my heart needs to change toward?”
God, we recognize that unity is so important to you. A house divided cannot stand, so may we build bridges and not walls. Change our hearts so we can genuinely love all people. Amen.
