Psalm 1

ScripturePsalm 1:1-3¹ Blessed is the one…² …whose delight is in the law of the Lord,    and who meditates on his law day and night.³ That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,    which yields its fruit in seasonand whose leaf does not wither—    whatever they do prospers.ObservationPsalm were initially written as songs by David and typically give us insight to the life of David and/or provide instruction.  “Most individual psalms involve the praise of God—for his power and beneficence, for his creation of the world, and for his past acts of deliverance for Israel.” [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psalms]UnderstandingComing out of the fast – a time when we specifically and corporately spend time meditating on God day and night – these verses struck my heart. We are a blessed people…and not just in this 28 days of prayer and fasting. We are to meditate on God day and night YEAR ROUND.  I love that verse 3 calls out part of our name – that a person who does this is “like a tree planted by streams of water.”  But I most love what comes next…”which yields its fruit in season.”  I believe it is our season!  As Pastor Gary mentioned yesterday, it’s a time for harvest. Life ApplicationGod, may we continue to meditate on you day and night, that we may be like a flourishing and healthy tree of life in our families, our community, our work places…everywhere we have a chance to interact and encounter others.  May we be on mission, open to hear your call, ready to obey in everything we do.  May this season be one in which we walk in boldness and in faith.  Ready and expecting to be used.  Thank you for being faithful to draw near to us as we draw near to you. In your name, I pray…Amen.- ReiTo check out the discussion or to join in click here.PS Something else I found to be of interest from today’s reading…Matthew 1:17 talks about there being 14 generations between 2 significant events and another 14 generations between 2 significant events. ¹⁷ Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.Seemed to me that the number 14 may have some significance and I can’t recall ever hearing that before.  So, that led me to this…https://ificouldteachthebible.com/2013/07/21/the-number-fourteen-in-the-bible/Which if you read about midway down, you see that the number 14 represents “the new thing actually starting” which reminded me of the symbolism in PGs sermon yesterday.  Interesting to me that our first day back to SOUL Journaling brings me to what feels like further confirmation that we are in a new time.  A time of harvest?  May we be bold and expectant in this season that’s upon us! <3
