Acts_8
ScriptureActs 8:4-84 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 7 For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.ObservationThis chapter begins with “And Saul approved of their killing him” – with “him” referring to Stephen, after his discourse to the Sanhedrin. And so began a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem – to include Saul “dragg[ing] off both men and women and put[ting] them in prison.” UnderstandingThe apostles were persecuted and scattered; but they were not silenced. I always wonder when I read scripture like this, what I would have done in their shoes. In this case, I wonder at the boldness of the apostles – that although they were scattered and under heavy persecution, they continued to preach. As they saw people getting dragged into prison, they continued to share the good news! And, because of their faith and continued sharing, people were healed and “there was great joy in that city.”Life ApplicationGod, may I have the boldness to share the good news with everyone I meet – both in word and in actions. And, if I’m persecuted or scattered in any way, may I continue to preach. You’ve called us to know you and make you known. May I never lose sight of the importance, the power, the necessity of that calling – to see lost souls saved. In your name, I pray. Amen. - ReiTo check out the discussion or to join in click here.
