Psalm_98

Scripture

Psalms 98: 8-9

“Let the rivers clap their hands in glee! Let the hills sing out their songs of joy before the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with fairness.”
‭‭
Observation-What does it say?

In this psalm, the writer speaks of the day when the world rejoices! The day when God returns and brings judgment to the earth. It will be a day when evil, sickness, sin, pain, and heartache end. A day when the new heavens and earth are established. A day for those who love God are able to dwell in His presence for eternity. A reason for the whole world to give praise!

Understanding-What does it mean?

This world we live in now is just a temporary dwelling place.

The book of Revelation speaks of the new dwelling place that God’s children will be inhabiting upon His return:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
Revelation‬ ‭21:1-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s a day we, that follow Christ, look forward to. A day of praise and rejoicing! A day when God brings back order to things. It is a great reminder to me that the world I am living in now is just a temporary “stopping ground”, and that there is so much more that awaits me because I choose to follow Jesus!

Life Application

I am a citizen of Heaven!

My citizenship is in Heaven, not in this world. I need to remember that although I am from this world, that I am not of this world. Jesus calls me to be set apart from this world, to be holy, so that is what I choose to be.

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”-1 John‬ ‭2:15-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
