Psalm_105

Scripture
Psalm 105:8 & 45
He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generationsSo that they might keep His statutes and observe His laws, praise the Lord!

Observation - What does it say?
This Psalm is centered around the relationship of God and his people.  It begins with a call to praise and then gives the Reader’s Digest version of the history of the nation of Israel.  It covers Genesis, the patriarchs, the story of Joseph, the deliverance from Egypt, God’s provision in the desert, and taking the land of Canaan.

Understanding - What does it mean?
I don’t know if it is the nostalgia, or that I am just trying to save some money, but recently I have been enjoying some more simple activities with my family.  We have been having picnics in the park, riding our bikes, and playing catch.  It has been a joy connecting with my family without the need of a screen to entertain us.

So, in the enthusiasm of simple activities, I recently tried flying a kite.  Never as a kid had I ever successfully flown a kite.  But, the other day I finally got one flying.  What amazed me the most was what really made it fly was the constant tension on the string.  Without that tension, the kite would simply come crashing down to the ground.  This was contrary to the belief of one of my son’s friend, who thought that if you let it go the kite would just fly away.

I think our lives in Christ are somewhat like this kite.  God is not only the wind, but also the one holding the string.  God’s laws are like the string.  If we follow them, we are allowed to fly ever higher into His presence.  If we try to live without them, we will crash to the ground like the kite.

Jesus said it more like this:

John 15:5-8

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.

Life Application
Holy Spirit, I ask that you move into my heart in such a way that I am overwhelmed with joy in God’s way.  Help me to seek only God’s glory, and may that glory come through the careful observance of His word.
