Luke_10

Scripture

‭‭Luke‬ ‭10:41-42‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.””

Observation-What does it say?

Jesus and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. On their way there, they stopped in a village and were welcomed by a woman named Martha, who invited them into her home. Martha was busy preparing a huge dinner for her guests, while her sister Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to Jesus’ teachings. Frustrated with her sister’s lack of help, Martha decides to vent her frustrations to Jesus. The response that Jesus gives Martha is one I’m sure she wasn’t expecting.

Understanding-What does it mean?

Don’t let the busyness of life get in the way of your relationship with Jesus.

I’m sure we all heard the story of Mary and Martha. Pastor Levi even referenced this scripture in one of his sermons three weeks ago. But the message behind this story still holds true to this day...Do not let the busyness of life get in the way of your relationship with Jesus!

I’m sure Martha was expecting Jesus to have her back and that Jesus would look down on her sister’s “laziness” and side with her. On the contrary. Jesus honored Mary’s decision to rest and connect with Him on a personal level. He wasn’t impressed with the works that Martha was doing in the kitchen and around the house. He would have preferred Martha to sit alongside her sister Mary, as He connected personally with each of them.

I’m sure that holds true to this day. Our good works doesn’t impress God. But it is our relationship with Him that He honors. The time we spend reconnecting with Him in prayer, reading His Word, and journaling what we heard from Him, (PB&J ), is what He truly honors. It is intimacy that He seeks from us. And He can’t get that from us when we are distracted with the world around us. So make time for something that matters. Make time for Jesus. He’s been waiting for you.

Life Application

Set a specific time and place, (a date), to be with Jesus.

Commandment number 4 (to honor the Sabbath) is already a specific day of the week we should set aside to be spending time with Jesus. But try to be purposeful in setting a “date” each day to spend with Him. For me, it’s early mornings before work, then on my lunch break. These are times I am uninterrupted from life’s circumstances (work and kids distractions). These are times of the day where it’s just me and Jesus. Quality one on one time with my Lord and Savior, where everything around me can wait and be put on hold. It’s something I know Jesus desires from me and honors that time we spend together.
