Scripture
Numbers 27:15-23
15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a] and lay your hand on him. 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him. 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”
22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the Lord instructed through Moses.
Observation-What does it say?
Zelophehad’s daughters had a dilemma that they took up to Moses, Eleazer the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly at the Tent of Meeting. Moses ended up going directly to the Lord FIRST for wisdom.
Understanding-What does it mean?
Moses went to the Lord for wisdom and then obediently followed through with God’s directions in faith.
Instead of making a decision based on his own knowledge or opinion, Moses went to the Lord. Not only did he go to the Lord to obtain direction, but he was obedient to His response.
Life Application
Go to the Lord for wisdom and direction. Follow through with His directives in faith.
We get wisdom and direction through staying connected in prayer, His Word, and through Spirit filled people/leaders in the Body of Christ. In everything we do, we should seek the Lord.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”-Jeremiah 29:13
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” -John 10:27
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”-John 14: 15-17”
Dear Jesus, I pray for humble hearts so that we would constantly seek You for wisdom and be faithful to obey when You give us direction. Amen.
