Psalm__37

Scripture

Psalms‬ ‭37:1-2‬ ‭

“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither.”

Observation-What does it say?

In this psalm, David’s main theme is to not concern ourselves with what the wicked are doing. Even if it seems they are prospering, our God is a God of justice, and they will soon be judged for their wrongdoings. Instead, David encourages us to remain faithful to the Lord. For the Lord will protect us and provide our every need.

Understanding-What does it mean?

The Lord gives, the Lord takes away.

It’s a humbling thought that at any given moment, God can take away all the things that took me so long to work for and achieve in my life. (My career, finances, family, home, or even my health can be gone in a twinkling of an eye)! It’s a great reminder to me on what, (or should I say Who), I truly put my faith in.

Now I hate to admit that there are times I can get caught up envying others and what they have. It can get frustrating sometimes. I mean here I am trying to live the right way and do the right things, and I’m just squeaking by in life. Then I see good old “Joe Schmoe” down the street doing whatever he pleases, and he seems to be living a more comfortable life than me! What’s up with that?!

But this psalm reminds me of the importance of remaining faithful to God. This psalm reminds me that God is ALWAYS faithful to those who trust and obey Him. At the end of the day when all the dust settles, and everything in this physical world is stripped away from us, what will “Joe Schmoe” have? As for me, I know I will still have my relationship with Jesus Christ. I know that He will never leave me or forsake me. I know that He will give me everything I need. I know if I delight myself in Him, He will give me my heart’s desires.-(Psalm 37:4). And I know that my faith in Him allows me to be in His presence forever. And that alone is something priceless that nothing in this world can replace.

“But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:39‬

Life Application

Focus on the spiritual, not the material.

“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”-Matthew‬ ‭16:26‬

Father God, please forgive me for chasing worldly things. Forgive me for being envious of others. Give me a heart that is content with all that You give me. You my Lord have never gave me too little where I grow hungry, or too much where I may think I can do it alone. You give me just enough, everything I need in life. Thank You for Your faithfulness. I love You Lord. May the way I choose to live my life be pleasing to You. In Your Holy and precious name I pray, Amen.
