Ephesians 1-5.12.22

Scripture

Ephesians 1:15-23 NIV

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Observation

The Apostle Paul is sharing some of his prayers for those in Ephesus. It is a prayer that shows Paul’s deep love and concern for the spiritual growth and well-being of the Ephesian church.

Understanding

I love this passage because we get a glimpse of Paul’s heart and love for others as he prays for their spiritual growth and understanding of who they are in Christ. This prayer is also a prayer that we can learn much from, particularly for our own prayer lives.

Paul prays that God will make known to the community God’s wisdom, riches, hope, and power. The wisdom and revelation to know Him better, is for the family of God, to be worked out as the people live and love in relationship with one another and the surrounding world.

This prayer shows us that there is so much more to be had for ourselves and others we pray for.

We can pray for a deeper encounter with God. We can pray for a deeper understanding of God. We can pray for a deeper power of God. We can pray for revelation of your destiny.

Life Application

God I pray for myself and the family at DSC to have a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation so that we may know you better. I pray the eyes of our hearts be enough to know the hope to which you have called us to. May your power and strength that raised Christ from the dead be activated in our lives as we understand who we are In Christ Jesus.
