Galatians 5 - 4.14.23

Scripture - Pick one verse that stood out to you.

Galatians 5

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

Observation - What about this verse stands out to you?

…walk by the Spirit…

There are desires which I have been delivered from. And then there are the desires which I hold close to my stomach - like the desire for fried food. Lord, what am I doing to myself? I have lived by a “If you fry it I will eat it” for so long now. They don’t even have to tell me what it is. Don’t even bother asking me if I want to try it. Just shove it in front of my face, I will find some salt to sprinkle over it, and they can just walk away.

I have been so blessed to live a life where food is abundant. I have gotten to eat and taste some of the best food in the world, (LA and NYC) but really thank you God.

But I feel like you are calling me to taste better food. The best. One that can only truly be tasted by walking in the Spirit.

Application - How will you apply this to your life?

Lord, today my first meal of the day will not be water, coffee, or eggs. Instead I choose to walk by the Spirit first and foremost. I will begin my day with prayer and the word of God. I will read my bible today before I do anything else. You will be the first to nourish my spirit and my stomach can sit in the passenger side.

Prayer - Write out a prayer.

Lord my flesh is weak. But Your Spirit is…indescribable! I pray for your strength as I create distance from my flesh and proceed to walk by Your Spirit! As a beloved elder of my church family once prayed over me this verse I hope to tap into its life-giving power again today. And tomorrow. And the day after that. And well, forever!

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength. (Isaiah 40:29)

May You be my strength in this endeavor. Always and forever. In the name of Jesus do I pray, amen.
