Matthew 27 - 9.29.2023

Scripture - Pick one verse that stood out to you.

Matthew 27:51-53

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Observation - What about this verse stands out to you?

As I get older my body seems to react more to the events which led up to the death of Jesus Christ. I was reading this morning and I felt my gut and teeth clenching as if in response. Just trying to imagine any human being enduring what Jesus had to go through is enough to make me feel weak but when I read verses 51 to 53 all weakness fled from me and I could only think, ”That is so incredible!”

Application - How will you apply this to your life?

I feel like God was trying to teach me this morning and remind me that when the Lord went through what He went through (I almost don’t like to say crucifixion because it makes me feel so weird)…some truly fantastic and amazing stuff happened as a result –  like Him triumphing over sin and death, the veil being torn between us and the Father, the temple now residing in us, as well as a mass resurrection that very same day!

Prayer - Write out a prayer.

Lord, I feel like you highlighted this verse for me today for a reason. May I never forget all that You accomplished, while I read about all that you had to endure to achieve it. I am so grateful that you are more than a Savior, but that you are also a loving Father, and Teacher as well. Help me to continue to chew on this word today. I praise you and I worship you. In the name of Jesus! Amen.
