Proverbs 2 - 1.6.23

Scripture - What stood out?

PROVERBS 2: 3-8

3 indeed, if you call out for insight

    and cry aloud for understanding,

4 and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure,

5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord

and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the Lord gives wisdom;

from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7 He holds success in store for the upright,

he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

8 for he guards the course of the just

and protects the way of his faithful ones.

Observation - What does it say?

Back to the basics! King Solomon lays out the reasons that we should seek out wisdom and understanding. Once you seek wisdom you will naturally find God’s knowledge and you will understand the reverent awe of the Lord, aka the fear of the Lord.

Understanding - What does it mean?

The bible is a compass! And I say that will all the respect, honor, and glory that is due the word of God.

I remember being a teenager trying my very best to become a legitimate high school basketball player. My private training sessions would sometimes take me into all these wild directions which would lead to some of the best and some of the worst basketball games of my playground career!

Some of the best advice I was given when I found my creativity had spawned failure instead of ingenuity was, “go back to the basics Ken!”

And that’s what I hear the Lord telling me right now. Go back to the basics! Seek God’s wisdom. Read your bible! Pray to God! Worship God!

Life Application - How can I apply this to my life today?

Lord for my life application I want to live out verse three today. I will use my voice to call out for Your insight. I will actually call out for Your understanding. Teach me your ways Lord! Teach me Your wisdom! Teach me Your word! Help me to put it all into practice! Help me to remember! I praise You and worship You this morning. Praise God! In the name of Jesus do I pray, amen.
