Psalm_31

ScripturePsalm 31:21 NIVPraise be to the Lord,    for he showed me the wonders of his love    when I was in a city under siege.ObservationIt is thought that David wrote this psalm when he was persecuted by Saul….It is a mixture of prayers, and praises, and professions of confidence in God, all which do well together and are helpful to one another.

1. David professes his cheerful confidence in God, and, in that confidence, prays for deliverance out of his present troubles (v. 1-8)
2. He complains of the very deplorable condition he was in, and, in the sense of his calamities, still prays that God would graciously appear for Him against his persecution. (v. 9-18)
3. He concludes the psalm with praise and triumph, giving glory to God, and encouraging himself and others to trust in him (v. 19-24)

[https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/mhc/Psa/Psa_031.cfm]UnderstandingI loved stuff in all 3 of the chapters for today’s reading but for some reason this verse grabbed hold of my heart.I’ve never been in a “city under siege” nor have I been chased around by a king trying to persecute me.  But I think we’ve all had experiences where we felt attacked, unsafe, frustrated by our circumstances and in need of some “wonder.”  And, as I think back in my own life, of the big and little ways that God has shown his “wonders of love” in those times, that has been one of the main things that has built and kept my faith.  When I’ve doubted and wanted to turn away, He’s used a person, a song, a scripture, something in the sky, His provision (and probably 100 other things) to remind me that I am seen, heard and loved. Life ApplicationPraise be to the Lord!God, thank you for your faithfulness.  I’m grateful for your heart towards your children.  When we disobey, doubt, turn away, throw a tantrum, you never turn your heart away.  Thank you for the ways you’ve shown me the wonders of Your love!  Open my eyes, today, to ways I can partner with You to show Your love to those I encounter and think of.   In your name, I pray.  Amen. - ReiTo check out the discussion or to join in click here.
