Genesis 21 - 2.23.24
Scripture: Genesis 21:1-4, 6-7
”Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.””
Observation:
The Lord was gracious to Sarah and did what He promised. This promise was a long time coming, far past what would be humanly possible. However, it says at the “very time God had promised him.” This time was given a year prior. Sarah had given up long before because she gave Abraham her slave to have a child with. This totally backfired as it caused a lot of grief. Now her joy is so full she declares, “God has brought me laughter and everyone who hears will laugh with me.” God had the perfect time mapped out all the long. In His infinite wisdom, He does not give us a timeline until it is best.
Application:
“Though the vision tarries, wait for it.” Habakkuk 2:3
Has God promised you something? Wait for it. Don’t try to make it happen yourself. However, if you stray our Gracious God still can bring it to pass. He keeps His promises at the perfect time. Not as soon as I would like, but it will be best.
I want to choose to seek God and trust, even when what He promised now seems impossible.
Prayer:
Father God, Thank you for your grace and your word that never fails. Please keep my eyes on you and help me follow your path each day. May I not rush ahead or try to create my own version of what you promised. Please surround me with hope, so as the vision tarries I will wait for it. May I honor you in all I do and when the promise comes, like Sarah share my joy so others may rejoice.
Amen
