Proverbs 6-5.2.22
Scripture
Proverbs 6:27-28 NLT
“Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes catch on fire? Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet?”
Observation-What does it say?
This is another wise proverb from King Solomon warning to stay away from the immoral, promiscuous, and married woman. They all lead to a path of destruction.
Understanding-What does it mean?
You play with fire, you’re bound to get burned.
In King Solomon’s wisdom, he knows far too well the destruction that adultery can bring. He can look at his own dad’s life and see what happened with David and Bathsheba. He knows the destruction it caused both parties and families involved. So why risk it?! Is it because we all think we can get away with it unscathed? Is it because we think that the secret will never come out? We all know Who knows. God knows! And like verse 29 reminds us in this passage, it will not go unpunished.
“So it is with the man who sleeps with another man’s wife. He who embraces her will not go unpunished.”-Proverbs 6:29
Life Application
Set boundaries for yourself.
Setting boundaries for ourselves is a great way to help prevent any sexual immoral behavior from happening. Maybe it’s not going on certain websites that may trigger a certain behavior. Maybe it’s not allowing yourself to be in a room alone with someone of the opposite sex. Maybe it’s allowing your spouse access to your email and password to your cell phone (I know my wife has access to both). At the end of the day, don’t allow temptation to get a hold on you. Use these boundaries as guard rails to keep you on the right track. Run away like Joseph did. Flee from sexual immorality!
“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.”-1 Corinthians 6:18
“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”-2 Timothy 2:22
