Mark 8-4.29.22

Scripture - What stood out?

Mark 8:21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

Observation - What does it say?

Jesus feeds the four thousand > the pharisees ask for a sign > Jesus tells them they won’t get one (I know the Lord isn’t ironic or sarcastic but I literally scratched my head on that verse because he had just fed four thousand, I need to research the word sign in this context) > the disciples are trying to figure out their next meal, in Jesus’s presence.

Understanding - What does it mean?

Where is your faith?

In a heated conversation with my mother about certain family relationships she replied to me, “...you and I are just stronger Christians - that’s why.”

Strength is relative.

And here were arguably the “strongest” Christians being gut checked by our Lord Himself literally after they had recently viewed another miraculous feeding. This is Jesus speaking at verse 19:

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” 20 “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” 21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

I was very distressed today…I had not packed my lunch and was planning on running out to grab something on my lunch hour. But I left my security card at home. I was stuck in my building! I resigned myself to just starving. Which by the way I could starve myself for 3 months and I would survive with room to spare. I hadn’t told anyone that I was skipping lunch today. About one hour after I read Mark chapter 8, my co-worker ran to my desk. “Hey Ken come quick, there are sandwiches in the break room!”

Life Application - How can I apply this to my life today?

I am not sure why I still don’t get it, Lord. Thank you for your reminder in Mark 8. It is kind of crazy how both the pharisees OR your disciples didn’t understand. Please help me to let go of everything that I no longer need because I have YOU. I am sorry that I am such a slow learner. Help me to speed up. Please teach me Jesus. Thank you for building my faith today, Lord.

In the name of Jesus.

Amen.
